Due to the small sizes of Columbine and Barrett Elementaries, Denver Public Schools proposed  to consolidate the school programs in order to provide more opportunities for those students. Colorado school budgets are based on how many students are enrolled; the more students enrolled at a school, the more funding that school receives in order to pay for athletics, extra-curricular activities, special programs and more.

Columbine Elementary hosted a meeting to discuss this proposal.
